Commercial Services Photo Album: LRE Foundation Repair Assists in Controlled Demolition in Tampa, Florida

The DoubleTree Westshore Hotel, situated near the Tampa International Airport, was acquired by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in recent years. The department needed to carefully demolish the building in order to make way for the expansion of the adjacent I-275 Interstate. Cross Construction Services (CCS) was contracted by the FODT to carry out the demolition. Upon inspection of the structure, it was discovered that certain sections were constructed with solid concrete, while others utilized hollow cell concrete blocks. The hollow sections needed to be filled to properly set explosive charges and allow for a careful, contained implosion.   LRE was called upon to fill the hollow concrete block cells with 17,000 pounds of PL 400H Hydrophobic two-component rigid polyurethane (PolyLevel) on the first, third, and sixth floors. LRE filled about 2,000 cells with the PL 400H material, and CSS followed afterward with the installation of the explosive charges.
