The Importance of a Strong, Stable Seawall

A seawall is a critical form of defense against storm surges and erosion for homes or businesses located in Florida's coastal areas. Typically made of concrete, masonry, or sheet piles that are placed parallel to the shore, seawalls act as a shield to protect your property from waves and coastal erosion. A seawall blocks waves, breaking them before they reach beyond the seawall. In addition to preventing flooding and property damage, a seawall reflects wave energy back into the ocean, reducing the energy that contributes to soil erosion.

How do I know if my seawall needs to be repaired?

Residential & Commercial Seawall Repair

While a seawall protects your property from storm surges and erosion, seawalls are not infallible. Waves, harsh weather, hydrostatic pressure, and other forces put significant stress on the structure. Eventually, you may notice signs of seawall damage.

Signs of a Failing Seawall

  • Pooling water behind seawall
  • Cracks in seawall cap and wall
  • Outward movement or tilting of seawall
  • Deterioration of anchor rods
  • Seawall planes shift and become misaligned
  • Erosion behind or under seawall (voids forming, drop in soil level)

A deteriorating seawall is an eyesore as well as a safety hazard that puts the stability and condition of your property at significant risk. Worse yet, seawall problems only get more severe as time goes on, especially when exposed to excessively high tides, heavy rains, and tropical storms. That's why it's essential to repair your seawall as soon as possible. After all, the last thing you want for your Florida property is to have a swimming pool, deck, landscaping, and other items hanging precariously in the balance after a sudden seawall collapse!

Our Commercial & Residential Seawall Repair Solutions

Although many Florida contractors often suggest replacing a weakened wall with a new seawall construction, doing so can be disruptive and costly. LRE Foundation Repair offers alternative solutions to repair seawalls — both of which are minimally invasive, cost-effective, and long-lasting. As a member of the Supportworks network, our seawall repair methods utilize state-of-the-art concrete leveling and foundation repair techniques to stabilize, reposition, and strengthen damaged seawalls.

At LRE Foundation Repair, every project begins with a thorough, on-site inspection to determine the underlying cause of the problem. With a clear understanding of what's going on with your seawall, our team can identify the best option for your property and deliver a detailed estimate outlining the recommended repair. Learn more about our residential and commercial seawall repair solutions below.

Note: LRE Foundation Repair can repair concrete block seawalls. However, we cannot repair failing, crumbing, wood, or timber seawalls. We also do not pour or rebuild seawalls.

PolyLevel® for Seawall Repair

LRE Foundation Repair

Over time, the soil around the seawall can start to wash away, creating voids and gaps around or under the wall. Without sufficient soil to support the footings, your seawall may begin to sink, tilt, or move outward.

LRE Foundation Repair can eliminate voids in the soil and stop seawall movement by injecting an innovative polyurethane foam called PolyLevel into the soil on the dirt side of the wall. Once injected, the foam expands to fill any gaps and stabilize the surrounding soils, effectively sealing off the area of concern and preventing more soil from escaping into the water.

During this process, we use a deep injection pin between five and 10 feet long to start pumping the foam into the soil, raising the pin incrementally to ensure proper coverage. Once the voids are filled, our team cleans up any excess material and fills low areas with topsoil.

PolyLevel Benefits

  • Quickly fills voids to stabilize surrounding soils
  • Fully waterproof and will not wash out like mudjacking
  • Creates a barrier to future soil erosion
  • Non-invasive installation minimizes disturbance to property
  • Fast cure time
  • Environmentally-friendly

GeoLock Wall Anchors for Seawall Repair

GeoLock Wall Anchors for Bowing Seawall Repair

Seawalls typically have weep holes to allow water to escape. However, if the weep holes are blocked or not working properly, any soil that gets past the seawall will be absorbed into the soil. This causes the soil to expand, creating inward (or hydrostatic) pressure that can eventually cause the seawall to crack, bow, or tip forward.

LRE Foundation Repair can stabilize and repair cracked, tipping, or bowing seawalls with our heavy-duty GeoLock Wall Anchors. This type of seawall repair can be completed quickly without having to excavate the soil around the wall. Instead, the wall anchors are embedded into stable soil away from the seawall and connected to steel wall plates with long, galvanized steel rods. The anchors are then tightened and will hold the seawall securely in place without any further adjustment. The wall anchors can also be tightened during dry seasons, allowing you to completely straighten the seawall over time.

GeoLock Wall Anchor Benefits

  • Effectively strengthens and stabilizes seawalls
  • Soil Stabilization for Seawall Repair
  • Minimal disturbance to docks, lawns, and landscaping
  • Can be tightened periodically to straighten the seawall over time
  • Galvanized steel construction resists corrosion
  • Easily concealed with Hide-A-Way Wall Anchor Covers
  • Backed by a 25-year warranty
